SEASON OPENER DISAPPOINTING FOR THE PIGEONS
AS THEY LOSE TO THE RUMBLE FISH, 5 - 2 |

The Dark Pigeons embarked on their fifty fourth campaign at the
S.S.C. Wednesday night against one of their top rivals, the Rumble Fish. Both the Pigeons and the Rumble Fish played with shortened benches as they each had one substitute. While the Pigeons were never out of the game, they seemed flat as they lost the opening game 5 - 2.
Chip Reamer controlled the tempo of the game as the Pigeons were
unable to coral him. Reamer put up two goals for his Fish and added an assist. Hannah, Sucuy, and Ayers added goals to help their team to victory.
One of the highlights of the game for the Dirty Birds was the play in
net of Andy Wissler. Wissler kept the Pigeons in the game as he allowed only four goals. The final goal scored for the Rumble Fish was an empty netter.
While John Zelko and Brian Howe each scored goals, the Pigeons
could not get their offense jump started. The Pigeons are hopeful that the additions of J. D. Mathers, Craig Kemmlein, and Mark Clowney will get the team on track for a run at the cup. |

Another strong performance between the pipes for Jim "The Steel
Wall" Esposito linked with a true team performance helped clinch a spot in the championship game for the Pigeons. Every Pigeons skater managed a point on the score sheet as they clawed their way past the Warlocks Monday night. Nate Voss picked up his second game winner in as many outings as he helped his Pigeons move on to face McGrath's for the chance to claim their 13th crown.
Down 1 - 0 early, John Zelko evened the score as he beat Tommy
Mull glove side. Mark Clowney scored the first of his two goals on the evening as he re-directed a Matt Sheads chance on net past the unsuspected netminder. The Warlocks evened the score at 2 - 2 before the half but the Pigeons would not falter.
After the Pigeons gave up the lead early in the second, J. D. Mathers
showed flashes of greatness. Mathers sent a 120 foot pass between two defenders and onto Brian Howe's tape. Howe buried the opportunity to tie the score at 3 - 3. Mark Clowney gave the Pigeons an one goal lead as he rang the inside of the post. The goal was one of the best shots of his career. Nate Voss sent a shot from the blue line that handcuffed Mull. The goal gave the Pigeons breathing room with the 5 - 3 advantage. After a late goal to pull within one, the Warlocks were shutdown by Esposito and the suffocating Pigeons' D. |
